In last week’s article, we talked about surfing in its entirety. Today we want to examine the types of this sport together.
Longboarding
Surfboards have different lengths and characteristics that we have discussed in detail in the equipment and surfing equipment. The range we are dealing with in this type of surfing is about 3 meters long. Having the best balance of all surfing boards, these long boards provide the opportunity for surfers to perform special gymnastics-like movements on it. By walking on the board while surfing, they can stand on the nose of their board or even turn there and stand backwards in the opposite direction of the range. Even the most skilled can sometimes surf while standing on their hands.
Shortboarding
This type of surfing is done with a range that is not easy to balance with the previous type, but gives more maneuverability to the rider. In this type, surfers can make consecutive and reciprocating rotations on the wave. Or even jump in the air from the peak of the wave with their range. Professional surfers can spin in the air and get back on the wave at the same time.
Long-wave Surfing
As the name implies, this type of surfing is done on very long waves. Although the long wavelengths of the oceans can reach more than 25 meters, most surfers choose waves 3 to 6 meters high for riding. These waves form only in open ocean waters, so these waves can not be seen in lakes and rivers. More experienced ones are usually pulled by boats to very high waves in the ocean to reach the right waves. At the moment of the desired wave, they release the mooring attached to the boat and bravely go to face a mountain of water and take a ride from it.
One of the reasons for the formation of long waves is the topography of the seabed. The shape of some of the bumps in the water bed causes very high waves. The Mavericks Beach in California, as well as the beach in Nazaré, Portugal, are examples of these places, both of which are popular long-haul surfers.
Wakesurfing
This branch of surfing looks like water skiing. In this way, the rider rides on the waves created by a boat or any heavy vehicle that moves rapidly in the water. Of course, the difference with water skiing is that after standing on the wave, they release the mooring attached to the boat and move on the waves without being pulled by the boat.
Large tankers generate large waves when moving in the water, usually at an average height of about 1.5 meters. But sometimes they continue for about 1.5 km behind these vessels. In places like the Gulf of Mexico, surfers take advantage of this opportunity to surf in the wake of these large vessels.
If you want to know more about the other water sports like jet skiing please ask us. Jet skiing needs a jet ski and because jet skis are so expensive you can consider jet ski rental in Toronto and Canada as an option. Also, you can consider boat rental in Toronto and Canada as an option.
